I’ve made several guest appearances on podcasts and videos for other content creators. This page consolidates those appearances for those who may be interested in them (and so I can more easily keep track!)

AskHistorians

I’ve been a contributor to the online public history forum r/AskHistorians for over eight years, so it’s not very surprising that I’ve made a few appearances on their media.

I was interviewed about my book The Medieval Crossbow for the AskHistorians Podcast, click here to listen.

I also chaired a panel on historical fiction and the representation of history for the 2021 AskHistorians Digital Conference. I’m really just facilitating discussion by much more interesting scholars, but it was a really interesting experience. You can view the panel here:

Homo Ludens

I’m a big fan of Fred Serval’s YouTube channel Homo Ludens, which is about history and boardgames.

I have been a guest on several episodes of the Ludens podcast, discussing games like Warriors of God, Sekigahara, and Richard Berg’s Men of Iron series.

I was also a guest on a Teach and Play of the game Pax Viking with designer Jon Manker and fellow historian Adam Bierstedt. in addition to playing the game we discuss Viking history and the portrayal of Vikings in games generally and in this one specifically. Originally recorded as a live stream you can watch the playback here:

Fans of my ongoing series on Men of Iron might be interested to watch myself and host Fred Serval battle it out in the Battle of Poitiers scenario:

New Books Network

I was interviewed about my book for the New Books Network podcast. We covered a lot of the main themes and topics contained in the book, making it a great place to sample the book’s contents:

How to Make Everything

The popular crafting YouTube channel had me as a guest for their episode where they attempt to make a crossbow from scratch. I was interviewed about the history of the crossbow and got to contribute to a really cool video.

You can see the original video, including my abridged interview, here:

They also uploaded a separate video of my full interview here:

Let’s Talk About Crossbows

I also have my own strange podcast called Let’s Talk About Crossbows. Episodes are incredibly infrequent, but you can here them here:
