About Me:

I was awarded my PhD from Trinity College, Dublin in 2016 based on my research into the development of bows and crossbows in the Later Middle Ages. My first book, The Medieval Crossbow: A Weapon Fit to Kill a King, was published with Pen and Sword Books in 2022 and I am currently working on my second book.

I am also a freelance writer and editor. I specialize in tabletop roleplaying games and historical board games, but I have written and edited a wide variety of subjects in my time. I am available for editing work, please reach out if you would like to work with me!

My main social media is Twitter where I am reasonably active and happy to chat about history, wargames, or Gundam.

The Medieval Crossbow is a new history of medieval Europe’s famous weapon. It is an excellent introduction to the topic for anyone new to the study of medieval weapons while also filling a much needed hole in the available scholarship. It examines the technical history and development of the crossbow as well as exploring how the crossbow was used in famous battles, medieval sports, and in popular memory.
